In Color

Thought I'd post one of Chrissy - in color - for a change. From the Lake Forest Park Farmer's Market.

I love how Chrissy's eyes and dress seem to match the colors reflecting in the window. The pale, brown, chocolate ice cream on her lip tops it off.

Burke-Gilman

At The Farmer's Market

Chrissy and I walked to the Lake Forest Park Farmer's Market today on the Burke-Gilman Trail. It's fairly small, but has a pretty good selection. We grabbed some fresh Salmon that we grilled for dinner, but not before Chrissy had some homemade ice cream. (Don't get between Chrissy and her ice cream ;)

Popeyes

Summer madness is sweeping the office. Since many of my co-workers are from the Midwest, we decided to head to Popeyes for our weekly lunch outing. The crazy part? We went to the one 25 miles away in North Bend, WA. But, it was worth it, and we got to drive through the mountains a bit.

Camping

Chrissy and I were going to go camping this weekend with my brother, but I came down with something during the week and decided not to go. We did make a visit to my brother's campsite though, located near the Snoqualmie Pass.

We also got to witness Stephen eat his first S'more. Before...

And after...

And no surprise, he was full of energy after.

Chinook's

Stopped off at Fisherman's Terminal today to pick up some fish at Chinook's. Grabbed a bite at Anthony's Home Port (Chinook's restaurant) - one of the best places to get Alaskan Cod.

Adventures on the River

Last weekend, Chrissy and I went over to Snoqualmie, WA for the day. Seattle's been a scorcher lately, so we thought it'd be cool to go to Olallie State Park to take a dip in the Snoqualmie River. It was pretty cold, but felt great. We even put Pretzel in - her first time swimming.

On Sunday, it was even hotter so we decided to go swimming again, this time in the Snoqualmie River just upstream from the Snoqualmie Falls. We were actually in the water just to the right of where the famous Twin Peaks sign was shot for the show Twin Peaks.

Because the Cascades got such little snow fall this winter, the river was a lot lower than it normally would be. We were able to easily cross the river and plant ourselves on a sand bar all day. Surprisingly, the water here was warmer than we're use to in Michigan. We had a beautiful view of Mount Si in the background. My brother and his family also joined us.

We had a great day. I got a little burnt, and lost a sandal (which probably went over the falls), but it was well-worth it.

Tree Hugs

After I got home from work last night, Chrissy, Pretzel and I went to Magnuson Dog Park. Down by the water, Chrissy sat on an interesting tree that seemed to stretch out a limb, putting its arm around her during the sunset.

Big Four Ice Caves

Last weekend, Chrissy, Pretzel, and I headed out to the Big Four Ice Caves. Situated at the base of Big Four Mountain in the Cascade Range, the ice caves sit underneath a large ice melt waterfall.

The caves are a short walk from a parking area off the Mountain Loop Highway, about 20 miles east of Granite Falls, Washington.

In addition to viewing the caves, we also hiked on the shale hill off to the side, where there were some more waterfalls. It was pretty hot that day (we even got some sunburn from the rocks), so we took a dip in a small waterfall. Most people thought we were crazy (being from Michigan, though, the water temperature wasn't too bad for us), but then others followed suite.

I would have liked to get some shots from inside the cave, but apparently people have died doing so from collapses. Though to be honest, I probably would have taken the risk and gone in them had it been January or February. But the loud cracking sounds we heard told us it wasn't a good idea.

In a way, the hike off to the side of the caves was more spectacular, giving a much better view of the surrounding mountains, and waterfalls high above.

Getting closer to the cave, we were met with a blast of cold air, and water shooting out at us.

We got so hot on our way down that we went swimming in a river. At one point, our dog Pretzel got so hot, she just laid down in a small ford and wagged her tail back and forth to splash herself.

All in all, it was a great day. Definitely worth the hour and a half drive. Check out my Flickr page for more photos of our trip.

Visit

My parents recently visited us for three weeks, staying at a cabin in Duvall. It was great to see them, and to have them with us for my birthday and Mother's Day. The time really flew by though. Below are some shots taken of my nephew, Stephen, when we all got together at the 192 Brewing Company in Kenmore, Washington.

My dad has recently gotten back into (wildlife) photography while spending the winters in Florida; some of my old Canon gear found a great home with him.
